Total Calories for the Entire Recipe:

Total Calories for 4 servings (French Toast only) = 638 calories
Calories per serving (1 slice of French toast) = 160 calories
Calories with syrup and toppings = 888 calories total for 4 servings
Calories per serving with toppings = 222 calories

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Ingredients

Slice the Bread: If your bread is not pre-sliced, slice it into 4 even pieces, each about 1 inch thick. You can use any type of bread, but thicker, denser bread like brioche or challah works best for French toast.
(320 calories from bread)

2. Make the Egg Mixture

Whisk the Eggs: In a shallow bowl, crack 2 large eggs and beat them until the yolks and whites are fully combined.
(140 calories from eggs)

Add Milk: Add 1/2 cup milk to the eggs and whisk until smooth.
(75 calories from milk)

Add Sugar, Cinnamon, and Vanilla: Add 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract to the mixture and whisk again until the sugar is dissolved and the spices are evenly distributed.
(50 calories from sugar, negligible calories from cinnamon and vanilla)

3. Soak the Bread

Dip the Bread: Take each slice of bread and dip it into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are fully soaked. Be sure the bread absorbs enough of the mixture, but not too much that it becomes soggy.
(This step doesn’t add calories, but the bread absorbs the egg mixture.)

4. Cook the French Toast

Heat the Pan: Place a skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Once the pan is hot, add 1/2 tablespoon butter and let it melt, swirling it around to coat the bottom of the pan.
(50 calories from butter)

Cook the French Toast: Place the soaked bread slices into the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes per side or until each side is golden brown and crispy. Repeat for all the slices.
(No additional calories added, but butter is used for cooking.)

5. Serve the French Toast

Plate the French Toast: Place the cooked French toast slices onto plates.
(No calories added in this step.)

6. Add Toppings (Optional)

Maple Syrup: Drizzle 1/4 cup maple syrup evenly over the French toast.
(100 calories from syrup)

Powdered Sugar: Lightly dust the French toast with a small amount of powdered sugar for extra sweetness.
(20 calories from powdered sugar)

Fresh Berries: Garnish with fresh berries, such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries, for a fresh and colorful touch.
(30 calories from berries if using)

Total Calories Per Serving:

Total Calories for 4 servings (French Toast only) = 638 calories
