Beef Stew Recipe: Based on NeemTime research

Ingredients of Beef Stew (Homemade, No Packaged Items)

500g beef (chuck or stew meat), cut into cubes

2 tablespoons homemade ghee or cooking oil

1 large onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon ginger paste (freshly grated)

2 large tomatoes, pureed or finely chopped

3 medium carrots, peeled and chopped

2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed

1 cup green peas (fresh or home-boiled)

1 tablespoon wheat flour (optional, for thickening)

1 teaspoon salt (to taste)

1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 teaspoon cumin powder

4 cups water or homemade beef stock (boiled from bones)

A handful of fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)

Step 1: Sear the Beef (10 min)
Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in a heavy-bottomed pot.

Add beef cubes and sear on all sides until browned.

Remove and set aside.
Calories: ~180 kcal (mostly from beef and ghee)

Step 2: Prepare Base Masala (10 min)
Add 1 tbsp more ghee. Sauté chopped onions until golden brown.

Add ginger and garlic, stir for 1 minute.

Add pureed tomatoes, turmeric, cumin, coriander, and cook till oil separates.

Step 3: Cook Beef with Masala (10 min)
Add the seared beef back into the pot.

Mix well with masala. Add salt and pepper.

Cook for 5 minutes on low flame to infuse flavors.

Step 4: Add Water and Simmer (45 min)
Add 4 cups of water (or homemade stock).

Cover and simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes, until beef is tender.

Add carrots and potatoes. Simmer for another 20 minutes.

Add peas in the last 5 minutes.

Step 6: Thicken Stew (Optional – 5 min)
Mix 1 tbsp wheat flour with a little water and stir into the stew.

Cook for another 5 minutes until thickened.
